Hot Water

Ahhh, after weeks without it (since 23/02) we finally got our hot water back today.

Even though we've got an electric shower and a washing machine its been hard work having to boil pans for everything else, but we're kind of getting used to it, so having it back, and having a hot bath, will be luxury.

If you're looking for a plumber I totally recommend Alan Milton of HG Milton & Son, Craignair 51 Hamilton Avenue, Mauchline, Ayrshire, KA5 6BT. Thanks a lot Alan.

I'm so old...

IMG_0608, originally uploaded by ki113rb33s.

Emma is now thirteen (happy birthday darling!) where did the last thirteen years go?
I hope the next thirteen don't fly past quite as quick, or I'll be fifty-two before I know it. :-(

6 nations 2007

IMG_0488, originally uploaded by ki113rb33s.

The standard of refereeing in this 6nations is really dire, without moaning on about everything... what about those ten seconds that the ref promised to the Welsh?
The guy who told the ref that there were ten seconds, and then that there weren't, should be sacked.

Well done and bad luck to Scotland for just about rehabilitating themselves.

James - Google Summer Of Code 2007

Google Summer of Code '07 will soon be accepting applications from students.

If you have an idea for a student to work on as a James SoC project send it to general@james.apache.org or post it on this wiki

If you are a student and want to submit an application to google about James, please discuss it on the general@james.apache.org mailinglist as well.

Not only do we have a lot of knowledge about what James needs (and doesn't need) we also have two years of experience of evaluating the proposals and experience mentoring two former SoC students.

We can help you to polish your application, and introduce you to our project.

James missed out on a SoC '06 student so I want to make sure we do everything we can to get good proposals and have them accepted.

Eat Land Bass - and save the Red Squirrel

We were eating Sea Bass last night, well ok the night before, but I didn't get round to posting this yesterday, and I wondered why it always insisted on the formal "Sea Bass" and didn't just let us call it "Bass".
Nikki quickly let me know that this is because there are Freshwater Bass, and I couldn't help feeling that it was a cruel fate that denied the existence of "Land Bass".

I intend to right that wrong.

From henceforth the Grey Squirrel shall be known as the Land Bass. Perhaps that will go some way to encourage more schoolchildren to eat them, a pastime encouraged by Lord Inglewood, who thinks Jamie Oliver should champion the cause.

Lunar Eclipse

Lunar Eclipse I, originally uploaded by ki113rb33s.

Here's a pic of Saturdays lunar eclipse.
There are two more on flickr.
They're heavily cropped but you can make out the craters, which I think is pretty good, I didn't even use a tripod.

Get it while its hot...

... water that is.
Plumbers have come and gone, one of the logo'ed emergency kind and two of the regular suck-in-air-through-the-teeth kind.
The long and short of it is that we need a new hot water tank.
Of course nothing is simple and our rural idyll comes complete with olde worlde plumbing so we can't expect a tank off-the-shelf.
The good news is that it won't be much more expensive than a regular modern one, the bad news is that it'll take 10-14 working days to get here.
What's worse is that we can't use the RayBurn (no sadly its not a fancy new one like those ones it's well past its sell-by date) while we're waiting for it either, so two weeks of cold kitchen and cold water.
Ho Hum.

I know nothing, I'm not a fortune teller, and you'd be insane to think that I am. This disclaimer was cribbed from an email footer I once received. It is so ridiculous I had to have it for myself.
